A new provincial laboratory was established at
Shalatin, Red Sea Province. The Laboratory occupies more than 10,000 sq.m area
and contains several diagnostic and research laboratories similar to those of
central Laboratory at Dokki, Cairo. This Laboratory is considered the 23rd
provincial laboratory that covers both lower and upper Egypt. We are excited
about this new lab because it will strengthens our ability to serve the Red
Sea Coast.

1) The reference lab will be comprised of the following units:
¨ Micoplasma
¨ Bacterial disease
¨ Viral disease
¨ Tumor & immunodeficiency disease
¨ Parasytology & micotic disease
¨ Avian pathology
2) The director of the reference lab will oversee all technical, financial, and administrative work according to the Agricultural Research Center regulation.
3) The lab will be responsible for the veterinary supervision of poultry production to ensure the standard quality control and biological safety. These will be monitored by inspection of local and imported eggs, day-old chicks, layers, and meat- producing chickens.
The lab will also periodically inspect all poultry producing farms and (incubators) hatcheries to ensure their safety. Medical health reports will be issued by the lab based on international standards.
4) In the case of exporting poultry products, the exporter must submit a request for inspection from AHRI (reference lab) to ensure that the products are in regulation with the health and safety standards of the importing country. If the products pass inspection, AHRI will forward the results to the Veterinary Service authority, (Govs) which will issue a certificate, valid for 3 months.
5) Technical committees from the reference lab, in conjunction with the Veterinary Service Authority, will go on periodical visits to poultry farms and points of production to obtain samples and ensure quality control and biological safety.
6) The reference lab will be responsible for diagnostic testing for all diseases. Reports will be issued to the Veterinary Service. Govs Authority, only in the case of infectious and epidemic diseases. The Veterinary Service Authority is responsible for taking any necessary action. All diagnostic testing will be done for a certain fee.
The reference lab accepts grants and donations in order to help run and improve its operations.
7) Diagnostic test results, with the exception of infectious and epidemic diseases, will remain confidential.
8) All accounts for the reference lab will follow regulations set by the Agricultural Research Center and the ministry of Finance. The reference lab will have a special bank account.

The Veterinary Service Department conducts a
wide range of seminars and workshops that covers many aspects of laboratory and
research areas. Trainees attend these activities are usually from Egypt and
international delegates (Middle East, Africa and Asia). The department also
provides consulting and technical advices to animal, fish and poultry breeders
and veterinarians
